One thing about us humans is we are always hungry for “more.” The good news is the Lord knows this and welcomes our insatiable appetite.
The “twist” is He Himself is the “more” our souls thirst for most. He said, “The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water’” (John 7:38). Jesus was talking about God’s Spirit filling our entire being and then flowing from us into the world as a blessing to others.
Jesus never said all earthly pleasures and pursuits are bad; He simply said He was better. The Spirit fills our innermost being. That is a place where no earthly thing can go. It is a place reserved for God. In the words of the 17th century philosopher and mathematician Blaise Pascal, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every person which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator.”
When our deepest parts are filled by His Spirit, we find greater contentment and satisfaction with all the other offerings of life.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
