Is there any way to talk to someone about faith in Jesus without it sounding delusional, unintelligent or even farcical?
As the exceptionally scholarly apostle Paul, calmly and clearly laid out his case for believing in the resurrection of Christ, he was interrupted by the governor, who exclaimed in a loud voice: “You are out of your mind, Paul, your great learning is driving you insane” (Acts 26:24).
It is not our communication style or skill that makes the message of Christ reasonable to others, and even if we don’t say a word, the mere belief that God raised Jesus from the dead is more than enough reason for others to label us absurd. For, “the person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit” (1 Corinthians 2:14).
The only way any of us comes to believe in the resurrection of Christ is because of the convincing work of the Holy Spirit, without which it is foolishness to all of us. So perhaps when it comes to influencing others to Christ as believers, we would be wise to think less about our techniques and strategies and be more prayerful about the Spirit’s persuasive power.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
