We don’t commemorate Good Friday to try to enter a place of forced sadness, for we already know the rest of the story. Christ is risen! Our purpose for marking the day is to remember why we stand before God blameless and holy. Why there is no condemnation. Why we are the righteousness of God in Christ. Why grace is ours in abundance. Why we need never fear punishment from God. And why the throne room of grace is always open to us. We sanctify this day as a memorial that Christ paid the price, on our behalf, for all these blessings.
Furthermore, Jesus did not ask us to be sad. On the contrary, He asked us to remember Him and “be of good cheer.” And so we do. We remember the lavish love He displayed for us on this day. We remember it with joy.
Good Friday is a worldwide “Thank You” card to Jesus that all believers sign in their hearts and each in his or her own way.
Good Friday tells us that Jesus made the payment for our sins. Easter tells us God accepted it! Rejoice! Be thankful! Be of good cheer!
Something to take just a moment to consider on this special day.
