Psalm 39 isn’t a pleasant psalm. It doesn’t resolve in joy, praise or faith. Instead, it ends with the author, David, asking the Lord to turn away from him and to give him a break. David feels like his situation is the result of the Lord’s hand against him. A “scourge” he calls it, and at the end of his venting, it seems like David just put down his pen and walked away, feeling no better than when he started his discourse with the Lord.
The truth of the matter is walking with the Lord is not always like a tv drama where things resolve in an hour. Waiting often goes beyond our preferred “limit.” Sometimes waiting for the plan is the plan. Sometimes waiting on the Lord for the next step is the next step. Sometimes waiting for light is all the light we need for that moment. Sometimes the spiritual boost we need is patience and the belief that waiting is ok.
Regardless of how it may feel, the Lord is always with us, and He will never turn away from us. Therefore, we never wait upon the Lord alone; we also wait with Him.
