“I blow bubbles sometimes when I talk to the Lord,” said the young lady to my wife after church service yesterday. My wife smiled and said, “I can’t wait to tell your pastor this because he will LOVE hearing that.”
My wife was right. I did. So much so that I smiled thinking about it again this morning. It made me think of the Latin phrase sui generis, which means one of its own kind. I even brought it up in my personal time with the Lord and thanked Him for the grace that makes each one of our relationships with Him sui generis among all His people.
I don’t blow bubbles when I talk with the Lord, but I have my own ways and “accessories” that help me cultivate and express my faith in our Lord. It’s a blessing to remember that the Lord relates to each of us as individuals. He doesn’t have a relationship “template” for all of us. Instead, He reveals the wonders of His person to each of us according to how He has designed us. No one has ever had a relationship with the Lord like yours. That is why our fellowship with Him and with each other can range from the blessing of gritty talk to sweet expressions, like blowing bubbles.
