“The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).
But wait! Great news! The Lord garnished ALL our sin wages.
So, what did He do with the “death” we earned? Isaiah gives us the answer:
“He [Jesus] was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. We all like sheep have gone astray, each one has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid upon Him, the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:5-6).
Behold the astonishing grace of God! Jesus, who never sinned, voluntarily received the death we earned by our sins. He did so, not because He had to; His ONLY motive was unfathomable love for us. And that same love is as fresh and powerful this Monday morning as it was 2000 years ago. It’s the only time in the history of mankind when wage garnishment actually made us richer!
