“Pastor Dan Baty’s Monday Morning Boost”

September 21, 2020 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

The classic horror story, The Body Snatchers, is about a town that is invaded by aliens who take over the bodies of humans. They are exact replicas but without the same spirit, soul and emotions. Close friends and family members can tell the difference and are horrified – until they themselves are also subsumed by the aliens.

God made you a one-of-a-kind event.  There is no one else like you.  Not only your talent or gifts, but your general personality.  Your style and tastes. Your flair and flavor.

Here is a fun little exercise I posted a couple years ago that many people enjoyed.  It is a light approach to identifying and sharing some of the special features of our personalities.

If an exact look alike were impersonating you, what would be a dead giveaway – besides your physical appearance – that they are not you?

For example, if someone were impersonating me, a dead giveaway he is not me would be if he didn’t eat the banana pudding you served him. Or if he came home one day wearing a New England Patriots cap. Or if he said, “What’s the big deal about being a grandparent?” And I’d know someone was a fake LaVern if she said, “I can’t stand old black and white movies, popcorn is not my favorite snack, and you won’t ever catch me talking to plants and flowers.”

Give it a shot and share the exercise with a family member or a friend, if you like.
