When we spent too much time at a friend’s house, my parents would often say, “Don’t wear out your welcome.” Thankfully, with the Lord, that need not be our concern. David’s testimony in Psalm 21:3 is also God’s invitation to us: “You welcomed him with rich blessings and placed a crown of pure gold on his head.” It’s a reminder that God’s invitation is always open, and His welcome is lavish.
Unlike the limited hospitality of our earthly experiences, He offers us an anytime sanctuary where we can process with Him our thoughts, fears, and hopes about yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We can do so knowing that He listens, cares deeply, and will never yawn, look at His watch, and say, “I’m sorry to cut this off, but I’ve got another appointment.” We can never take up too much of the time of the One who lives outside of time.
