There is a hidden “me” that we are not conscious of but who is known completely to the Lord, and whom He wants to introduce to us. This hidden self has potential strengths that we have yet to fully discover, like courage, compassion, resilience, and creativity. It also contains areas where liberating growth is needed from such things as bitterness and unforgiveness, insecurity, addictive behaviors, and unresolved guilt and shame. As we intentionally seek to deepen our connection with the Lord, He gently introduces us to this hidden self, much like a loving shepherd guiding his sheep to greener pastures. In doing so, He reveals to us more of His own attributes of love, forgiveness, support, and wisdom. This results in a greater trust in the Lord, a stronger attraction to Him, and an even closer relationship with Him.
1 John 4:19 reminds us, “We love because He first loved us.” Our adoration for God is always a response to His love for us. The more we experience His love and care for the hidden us, the greater will be our attraction to Him. God fully knows the person we are and the person we were meant to become. So let us embrace this journey of self-discovery with Him. As we do, we will experience a more authentic connection with Him and expression of our true identity.
