The enemy’s goal isn’t just to affect our behavior and attitudes—it’s to chip away at our faith in God’s unchanging love for us. But if nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39), then let’s determine—by His grace—that nothing will separate us from believing it.
When our faith is anchored in that truth, our struggles won’t keep us from seeking the Lord. But if we get caught up in perfecting our performance, shame and discouragement over our failures will weaken our desire to pursue Him. Even worse, if we do manage to control our habits, our pride in our own righteousness might start inflating. Either way, putting our focus on what we do rather than who He is leads us straight into a trap.
That’s why Paul made it clear: “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ…” (Galatians 6:14).
Fighting the good fight of faith is more than just living by Christian principles. It’s believing—deep down—that we are as secure in God’s affection as He says we are.
