A traveler once carried a lantern through a dense forest at night. The path was unclear, and the wind unpredictable. At times, the traveler wished the wind would stop so the flame could burn steady and bright. “Lord, let it be calm,” he prayed, “so my light won’t go out.”
But the wind did not stop.
So, the traveler pressed on, shielding the flame with his hand. And though the wind never ceased, the flame never went out.
When we pray, we may ask for the wind to stop. And sometimes it does. But the deeper security isn’t found in controlling the wind; it comes from trusting in the One who protects the light. It’s walking forward, knowing His light will last as long as our journey requires – regardless of what winds may blow.
“You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light” (Psalm 18:28).
