“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6)
Scripture doesn’t tiptoe; it draws a bold line. When our thoughts are shaped by the flesh, they drift towards deadness. But when they are influenced by the Spirit, we breathe peace and walk with godly confidence.
Fleshly thoughts push back against the Spirit and run on fear, pride, or evil desire. They come naturally. No effort required. Spirit-led thoughts sometimes require intention. They respond to grace, grow out of love, and rest securely in God’s promises.
It’s the difference between thinking, “They don’t deserve my kindness after what they did,” or “I’m not going to help; they never help me,” or “I knew they would fail; serves them right for not listening to me,” and hearing the Spirit whisper, “Put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with one another and forgive each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone. Just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you” (Colossians 3:12–13).
Flesh-driven thoughts may come easy, but they distort how we see ourselves. They either inflate our pride or lower our sense of worth. Spirit-driven thoughts take us home. They echo who we have been made to be in Christ, pure, holy, and righteous. And they lead us into the fullness of life we were always meant to know.
So, this week, let’s yield to Christ’s governance of our thoughts. Let His truth steady our minds and His promises give our perspective a holy refresh.
