As you begin this week, remember that you don’t have to be perfect to be effective. That’s not just a comforting thought; it’s a spiritual reality. You’ve never been perfect, even at your best. And no matter how hard you try, you won’t reach perfection in this life. But that doesn’t mean your efforts are wasted or your impact is diminished.
Striving for excellence is good. It honors God and helps bring out our best. But excellence is not the same as perfection. Don’t let your imperfections discourage you or make you feel defeated. God has never required flawlessness to do great things. In fact, throughout history, the only people He has ever used were flawed ones, because that’s all He has ever had to work with.
There is only one exception. His name is Jesus. He lived the perfect life we could not, and through His death and resurrection, He redeemed our imperfection. He made us perfect forever in the eyes of God, even while we still wrestle with weakness and limitation. That’s the miracle of grace. It’s not that we become flawless, but that we are fully accepted and empowered in spite of our flaws.
So, move forward into this week, not with a burdened view toward perfection, but with confidence in the One who has always crafted marvelous things from imperfect people. Let that truth settle your heart. Let it condition your work atmosphere, your relationships, your worship, and your rest.
You were not created to be an exception to His grace. You were created to be another testimony of it.
