There are many today facing deep hardship and uncertainty brought on by unexpected forces beyond their control. Some have lost their jobs. Some are not receiving paychecks. Others have watched government cutbacks shrink the safety nets they once relied on. And while many suffer, others continue to live as they are accustomed to, without much disruption.
There is no need to feel ashamed, nor room to feel superior because of that difference. God has not favored one over the other, nor is either less needy of His grace. And His grace is sufficient for all.
Whether in want or in abundance, our deepest and truest longing is still for Him. Because He is the Life whether we have much or little, whether we’re in the desert or the oasis, whether we’re employed or waiting, secure or uncertain.
Whether it’s the need for material provision, the ache of a broken relationship, the worry of a medical condition, or a vague emptiness of soul, He meets us there. He doesn’t rank pain; He responds to hearts. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). And He is the answer to every soul’s cry, wherever we are and whatever our lot.
