My customized coffee mug says on one side, “He’s doing it.” And on the other, Jeremiah 32:40 promises: “I will never stop doing good to them.”
“‘Never” is a long time. And it covers *everything* – what happens to us, what others do to us, what we get ourselves into, whatever our mood or attitude. Whether our plans succeed or falter, whether we feel strong or inadequate – the larger truth is that God is always working for our highest good – and will never stop.
That same verse tells us this astonishing promise from God is based on His “everlasting covenant,” not on our feelings, behavior or God’s mood, but on a transaction that took place on a hill far away, long ago, paid for on our behalf by Christ.
So may we live this week with confidence, thanksgiving, and joy in the permanence of His proactive favor, knowing that is the unchanging backdrop of our lives.
