Pastor Dan Baty’s Monday Morning Boost

December 22, 2025 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

One of the underrated blessings of change is how it sneaks up on us and shows us something new about God. Sometimes it’s the annoying kind, where your plans get scrambled, your schedule gets hijacked, or something breaks down. Other times it’s the intentional kind, like deciding, “You know what? Instead of my normal time and spot, I’m going to meet with the Lord after work, sitting in my car at the local park.” Or maybe it’s not “spiritual” at all – just different.

And then, quite often, something shifts. A new environment wakes us up. It nudges our senses. It widens the frame. It stirs thoughts and emotions that would’ve stayed half‑asleep if we’d stayed in our usual groove.

It reminds me of Jacob in Genesis 28. He wasn’t in a sacred space. He was literally between places – tired, on the run, sleeping outdoors with a rock for a pillow. And there, in that unfamiliar, uncomfortable setting, God gives him a dream and a promise. Jacob wakes up saying, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” Translation: “I didn’t expect Him here… but here He is.”

The Lord is always with us, everywhere we go. And what He reveals about Himself is often shaped by where we are, what we’re doing, and who we’re with. Change the setting, and suddenly our awareness perks up. Mix things up a little, and our hearts start listening differently, and our connection with Him feels fresh.

Change – whether invited or interrupting – actually helps disciple us. It opens a window and helps us see the same God from a new angle.

So maybe this week… shuffle the deck a bit.
