Jesus resolutely set His face toward Jerusalem (Luke 9:51), fully aware of what waited for Him there. His mission was clear, simple and staggering: to reveal the depth of God’s love for us. And He carried it out not in ease but in sacrifice, in suffering, in a steadfast commitment that would not turn aside.
Now that His work is complete, let us answer His resolve with our own. Let us pursue a deeper understanding of that love. Not only when life is smooth, but especially when it’s not. When circumstances confuse us, when prayers seem unanswered, when events unfold that seem to contradict His care. Those are the moments that matter. Those are the moments to trust the love He has already proven. Not passively, but passionately. With resolve. That’s the time to suffer toward Him, not away from Him. Invite Him in, don’t shut Him out, whispering “I trust You” from the very places that test that trust most.
And in this faith‑quest, we’re not left to rely on our own strength. We have a magnificently creative Helper living within us, faithfully teaching us to recognize God’s love in the textures of everyday life. In the shadows as well as the sunlight. He opens our eyes to the truth that transcends appearances. He brings comfort and consolation when our hearts are tired. He draws us into encouraging conversations with fellow travelers who are also learning to trust. And He weaves even the hard, bewildering events of our days into the slow, steady work of transforming us into people who know – deep down and for real – that we are loved. Unfathomably, unconditionally, and unwaveringly loved.
There is simply nothing better to know!
