“Pastor Dan Baty’s Monday Morning Boost”

November 30, 2020 By Dan Baty 1 Comment

Jesus said He did not come to earth for healthy people but for the sick.  Those who are physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually unhealthy.  What He did not say is that is really all of us.  A whole lot of people are in blind denial about their condition, and day by day the Lord is graciously working on helping them see, as He has helped the rest of us.  It is called grace.

And what is it He wants the whole lot of us to see?  The essence of it is He wants us to know Him personally.  Not as a concept or a religion, but as a living Person.  Not as a philosopher peddling profound ideas about life, or a self-help expert promoting effective strategies for living, or a priest pontificating about the moral priorities of life.  He wants us to know that He is Life itself.  True life.  Abundant life.  Eternal life.

And we want to know Him, whether we know it or not.  In the deepest parts of our being, He is what we are hungering for.  It’s not just that He has great plans for our life, it is that He Himself is the life we are desperately searching for in all our expeditions to find security, significance, success and substance.  He is the fullness of life we crave.  “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:11-12).  There simply is no greater offer available to us unhealthy mortals.

Amen! Trying to squeeze life from possessions. People or the many other trappings of this world is truly like trying to get blood from a turnip.
