An angry king sent a strong military force to capture the prophet Elisha and the army surrounded the city where Elisha and his servant were staying. When the servant saw the fearsome sight, he cried out to Elisha, “Oh, my lord, what shall we do?” Elisha said, “Don’t be afraid, those who are with us are more than those with them.” Elisha then prayed that the Lord would open the servant’s eyes so he could see the truth of Elisha’s words. Sure enough, the hillside was full of heavenly horses and chariots of fire.
There isn’t a moment of your life when you are not surrounded by God’s love for you, or a moment when His grace towards you is not sufficient for whatever challenges may be confronting you. Our task is not to be stronger than the challenge, but to trust the Lord for awareness of His glorious provision. To trust Him for eyes to see, ears to hear and hearts to respond to His abundant givingness. To trust Him to help us see the “horses and chariots of fire” He has dispatched for our aid and protection.
“As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore” (Psalm 125:2).
