On the television commercial, the actor, well known for his profanity, says to Santa, “Does this mean I’m off your naughty list?” Santa replies, “Are you off the naughty words?” The man says, “Yes.” Santa says, “Ho ho hooooo. I don’t think so.”
Let your heart rejoice today that by faith in Christ we are all taken off the naughty list, not because we are “off the naughty words” or because we’ve been nice in our behavior, but because God nailed the naughty list to the cross upon which Jesus died (Colossians 2:13-14). By His sacrifice, all who trust in Him now enjoy God’s forever favor. So much so that every biblical reference to naughty behavior, words like “wicked” or “unrighteous” or “evil” no longer applies to our status before God. Instead we are called, “holy,” “chosen,” “blameless,” and “beloved.” Not just at Christmas time but every single day of the year.
