“Pastor Dan Baty’s Monday Morning Boost”

January 18, 2021 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

Moses and Elijah are considered two of the most impactful servants of God the world has ever known.  But they were not superheroes.  They were normal people “with a nature like ours” (James 5:17).

When the Lord sent Moses to deliver the Israelites from Egypt, Moses’ initial effort led to an even worse situation for the oppressed people.  A distressed Moses cried out, “O Lord, why have You brought trouble upon this people? Is this why You sent me?” Centuries later, the prophet Elijah was sent by God to stay with a widow, whom the Lord said would provide for Elijah. When Elijah showed up, the woman’s son died. A distressed Elijah said, “O LORD my God, have You brought tragedy also upon this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?”

There were many others who questioned, doubted, resisted and blamed the Lord when things went sideways in their faith journey. God is still dealing with those kind of people.  They are us!  Fortunately, God has quite a bit of experience “talking people off the ledge” and shoring up their faith.

Long after Moses and Elijah’s days on earth had passed, it was Moses and Elijah whom God sent to consult with Jesus when Jesus was transfigured. God brought them through. He will do the same for us. He knows how to care for our distress and He is astonishingly patient with our impatience.
