For pilots, flying by sight is fine on clear and sunny days, but when the weather is stormy, cloudy and dark, when visibility is poor, they need their instrument panel.
In the same way, when things are going well for us and our way is clear before us, we can navigate rather easily, but when the storm clouds rise, we must rely on our instrument panel of faith. Faith in God’s promises.
One of His promises is to be available to us as a refuge. A refuge is a place of protection, of support, of supply, refreshment and care. We can seek Him for refuge from adverse circumstances, the deception of the evil one, even from our own self-defeating behavior and attitudes. Whatever may be the source of our fears, anxieties or oppression, we are promised to be blessed refugees when we make the Lord our refuge. When the storm clouds rise and visibility is poor, let this promise on your instrument panel guide you to safety:
“Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him” (Psalm 34:8).
