There is a reason our relationship with Christ is compared to money and called unsearchable riches. It’s not because money is “bad,” it’s just that Jesus is better. The way money dominates our sense of well-being, Jesus wants to become that attractive to us. That is the vision He has for us and that is the earthly opportunity He has given us. He wants to be the ultimate Source of our sense of well-being. Why? Because that is who He is! “He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else” (Acts 17:25). All things, including the power to earn money, come from Him, and knowing Him is better than anything money can buy.
That simple but critical shift in our daily orientation is the active ingredient of the kind of inner spiritual growth that, unlike money, produces fullness of soul, the surpassing peace of God, wise choices, and the supernatural joy of the Lord.
