“Pastor Dan Baty’s Monday Morning Boost”

January 24, 2022 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

For football fans, this weekend of games was the best in recent memory. Some talking heads even say it was the best they had ever seen. Every player that was a part of that terrific athletic drama was specifically chosen to be part of his respective team.

In the same way, everyone who belongs to God was chosen by God. But professional football is a business and “belonging” goes only as far as a player’s performance can take him. Just as he was chosen to be part of the team, he can be released by the team. Therein lies the difference between professional teams and God’s “team.” He will never release us for declining performance because He didn’t select us for our performance in the first place. We were not signed to a contract. Instead, we were presented with a covenant, a promise from God that whoever believes in His Son, Jesus Christ will become a forever member not only on His team, but of His family. Jesus expressed the “non-release” guarantee of the covenant in these words, “Whoever comes to Me, I will never drive away” (John 6:37). Stat that!
