The View from My Place – “A Given Love”

July 19, 2023 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

It is important to Jesus that we understand that He laid down His life for us and no one took it from Him. He wants us to know that He was a volunteer and not a victim.

He was a volunteer not for a dangerous mission that might cost Him His life, but for a mission whose very purpose was for Him to sacrifice His life “as a ransom for many.” In other words, He didn’t risk His life for us; He gave it. Intentionally. For me. For you.

He wants us to know that in order to highlight how much love was behind all the drama of His life, and death and resurrection. And He also wants us to trust that all that love is now behind all the drama of our life. His unfathomable love fills every moment of our life – waking and sleeping.

Whatever challenges you may be facing today, whatever unresolved matters may be weighing on your heart, whatever answers to your prayers may be pending, know today that the love of Christ towards you is never a variable; in the most literal sense, it is a GIVEN.

Jesus declares Himself to be the living one who was dead and is now alive forevermore. The only reason He “was dead” was because He chose to die. And the only reason He chose to die was so we could live in a loving relationship with Him forever. Forever includes today.
