Today my mind transported me back in time. I envisioned myself kneeling at the cross of Christ as He hung there in agony.
Among the crowd, I was uniquely equipped with all we now know about the gospel, which had not yet been revealed. So, I understood He was suffering and dying by His choice, for the whole world collectively, and for me personally. I saw His blood pouring from His wounds and I realized it was washing away my sins and paying the price for my citizenship in heaven, and for the eternal life I enjoy each day. I also knew this was the cost of my inner renovation that made me a suitable residence of the Holy Spirit.
I cried out, “Thank You Jesus for doing this for me!” He looked down at me with affection somehow conveyed through tortuous misery. And when He finally died, I knew that was not the end of the story but the prelude to the most glorious event in human history!
And now, back in the present, I ask Him to help me today to trust in His love for me that was on awesome display that terrible day long ago. I also ask Him to help me enjoy, in His honor, the gift of His presence and the unsearchable riches of Christ as they are revealed to me by the indwelling Holy Spirit. He paid for those privileges for me. For us.
Remembering is “time travel” and the cross of Christ is a life changing destination.
