Amid the escalating world-wide crisis and chaos, the Lord is busy at work:
He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth.
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two.
He burns the chariots with fire.
“Cease striving and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth.”
The Lord of hosts is with us.
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. — Psalm 46:9-11
Yes, God is at work, but it is not the work of bringing peace to the earth just for the sake of peace. The heart of the above passage is “I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth.” That is the Lord’s primary objective. Therefore, it is completely possible that the fires of global conflict must rage even farther beyond human control in order for the inhabitants of earth to recognize His divine intervention.
Meanwhile, His instructions to us are to “be still”; not “fix it.” This is not a call to complacency but a call to our souls. Be still within. Don’t fret. Instead, look to Him for the role He wants you to play today in His precision work of exalting Himself among the nations and in the earth. It may be as simple as praying for or with a person troubled and fearful of what’s happening in the world. Or it could be as involved as flying over to the Middle East to offer direct humanitarian assistance. And it could be anything in between. But what is important is not the “size” of your role but that it is in response to His leading as you fellowship with Him. He has the masterplan and each one of us is a vital part of it.
So let us be still (let go, relax) and know that He is God, and He is working in and through all of this to show the nations of the earth who He is.
