My prayers do not always involve a specific request; often, they are simply the release of my soul’s raw honesty, and today, they encompassed a dilemma. I was unsure of what exactly to ask the Lord for regarding a certain troubling situation, so I just shared my general feelings about it with Him. He understands all the matters of my heart, including those that sometimes linger like a morning fog. Indeed, “all my longings lie open before Him” (Psalm 38:9).
In His knowing, there is also tenderness, for He knows how to care for my convoluted concerns. By His grace, today I embrace this paradox: in surrendering my uncertainties, I gain certainty—the certainty of His undying affection for me, His supreme wisdom, His sovereignty, and His steadfast presence.
We don’t always need to know the nature of the problem, how to articulate it, or even what we desire from it; it is sufficient to know that He is present, that He delights in hearing from us, He understands, and He cares for us.
