It was a simple time for me with the Lord this morning, and afterwards I noted it with this brief prayer of thanksgiving, “Thank You, Lord, for my humble fellowship walk with You today. There were not a lot of ‘fireworks,’ but the blessing is we spent the time together.”
It is not the volume of words we use that register with the Lord but the sincerity of our hearts. As Jesus instructed, “and when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words” (Matthew 6:7).
As the famous 18th century theologian, John Wesley observed, “Indeed all the words in the world are not equivalent to one holy desire. And the very best prayers are but vain repetitions, if they are not the language of the heart.”
The truth of our hearts, whether from many words or few, is the heart of the matter with God.
