I love the word “focus.” It suggests words like “uncluttered” and “clear.” It prompts me to zoom in on what is essential. Focus makes life digestible and guards me from being overwhelmed.
In the midst of giving pastoral instructions to his disciple Timothy, Paul the apostle encouraged Timothy to focus: “Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead” (2 Timothy 2:8). Paul wrote this as if to protect Timothy from getting lost in the details and losing sight of the bigger picture: Jesus is alive! We serve a risen Savior, and all power in heaven and earth has been given to Him. He loves you! He’s with you! He’s in you! And He’s got this! Follow my directions, Timothy, but focus your trust on the Risen and forevermore-living Christ.
When I center my focus on Jesus and His resurrection, it mutes the secular and religious noise, and I find clarity, simplicity, peace, and rejuvenation. May the Lord give all of us such a blessed focus today!
