I was once in kindergarten; that’s how I got to first grade and eventually junior high, high school and then college.
My spiritual kindergarten began miraculously, with me calling out into the darkness of a fall night to God. He entered my life in a supernatural way that was unexpected, unfathomable, undeniable and unforgettable. My world changed forever.
I know I didn’t imagine that life-changing event, because that miraculous encounter, like kindergarten was the steppingstone to the next stage of my spiritual growth and so forth until I arrived where I am today. Where is that? I have an utterly delightful personal relationship with Him and an unquenchable eagerness to know Him better each day. I am now both a teacher and a lifelong student of knowing Christ.
Like school, I have had plenty of tests along the way. Some I’ve passed. Some I’ve failed. But He has always provided the extra help and encouragement I’ve needed to keep growing. And I’ve had excellent classmates along the way. (You know who you are.) And as I write these words, my wife is not only my favorite schoolmate, but she is also the best study partner I could ever imagine. Oh, the ideas and truths we ponder together, discuss and laugh about.
I am not an instructor for Jesus Christ today because I decided to be religious. No, it was the wonders of “kindergarten” that captivated me, and I have been fascinated and inspired forward ever since.
