The View from My Place – “Giving Him my Attention”

January 5, 2022 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

I do not spend time with the Lord to get His attention. I spend time with Him to give Him mine.

For His part, He has made it clear that He is always mindful of me with statements such as, “Can a woman forget her nursing child… even these may forget but I won’t forget you,” (Isaiah 49:15) or “Where can I go from Your Spirit” (Psalm 139:7), or “The very hairs of your head are all numbered,” (Luke 12:7). The fact that the One who “neither slumbers nor sleeps” (Psalm 121:4) lives inside of us is His ultimate statement of perpetual attentiveness.

As beloved members of His forever family in Christ, we always have His attention, but Him having ours… that is a different story altogether. It is surprising how quickly we can become distracted and “wander off” into notions that threaten our peace, our joy or even our faith. Thankfully, it is not surprising to Him. He’s seen it lots of times. It’s the nature of “sheep.” And like the Good Shepherd He is, He faithfully brings us back to the fold.

But the frequency of our wandering can be decreased by being better attuned to Him. As I give Him my attention, He reminds me that I always have His.
