How did I get this way? My life in Christ began when I responded to the revelation of His glory. If you are in Christ, your relationship with Him began the same way. We were exposed to the glory of the truth about Jesus. It glowed for us in the same way the burning bush glowed before Moses, and the voice of the Lord called to us by name. It wasn’t an audible voice, but it was clear enough and glorious enough to evoke a response of “yes” from us.
Now, as a believer and disciple of Christ, I believe the Lord wants the daily forward motion in my faith to also be a response to His glory. He reveals His glory in a variety of ways. It may be in the way a particular passage of Scripture ministers to me. It could be revealed in nature, the way a particular scene affects me. His glory may manifest itself in a surge in my faith, the lyrics or the melody of a song, surprising perseverance or an inexplicable peace that surpasses my understanding. It may show up in my fellowship with another believer and transport us both to a rich and surprising place. The possibilities are endless.
For me, getting to know the Lord better involves becoming more aware of and responsive to the revelation of His glory, whether it is big and dramatic or small and subtle. But awareness of His glory is not something we can create or control. It is His glory to reveal as He pleases and ours to receive. So, Moses’ prayer, when he was alone with the Lord is a fitting one for us as well: “Then Moses said, ‘Please, show me Your glory! (Exodus 33:18).’”
His glory creates the holy enchantment that makes our relationship with Him a fascinating journey that goes beyond a religious exercise.
