The View from My Place – “Godfidence”

April 27, 2022 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

Self-confidence is important in any endeavor. However, I have discovered that just as there is a power greater than “self,” there is a confidence greater than self-confidence. It has been called “Godfidence,” and it simply means confidence that God is in control. It is confidence in God.

Self-confidence is the belief that I can do what is necessary to get me from point “A” to point “B.” Godfidence, on the other hand, is the belief that God can provide what I need to give my best effort, and even when the wheels apparently fall off, He can still uphold the cart and deliver the goods.

Godfidence is the fruit of trusting in the Lord. It is boasting in the Lord. It is making the Lord our strength. It is trusting in His love for me, even when I feel unlovable. It is trusting in His power to make it happen, when my tank is on empty. It is resting in His wisdom and not insisting on my results. It is trusting Him not only as the Sponsor of my success, but as the One who defines it.

Self-confidence is a valuable asset. It is not wrong. But why settle for it when underneath us are the everlasting arms in whom we can always trust?
