The View from My Place – “Gold Veins”

May 14, 2025 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

Back in the 19th century, thousands of hopeful dreamers rushed to California, hoping to strike it rich by unearthing gold hidden beneath the earth. But the most valuable gold isn’t found in riverbeds or mines. It’s embedded in the fabric of our daily lives, waiting to be discovered in every mood and circumstance. It’s the golden vein of knowing the Lord better, and trust is the tool that extracts it.

The more we make trust in Him our priority, the more clearly His presence shines through—not as something we have to strive to see, but as a reality that gently reveals itself over time. Life’s ups and downs stop feeling like random events. Instead, they become invitations to rely on His love, believe that His hand is at work, and rest in the assurance that He is always with us.

Trust reshapes surrender, from letting go of control to grasping confidence that His ways are not only higher but better. We still bring our hopes and desires to Him, but we loosen our grip on needing things to turn out our way. We embrace His wisdom and love more than our own ideas about how things should be.

The more we trust in Christ, His voice in Scripture and prayer becomes familiar and life-giving. We no longer seek Him only in times of need—we are drawn to His Word, eager to hear His heart, and find ourselves becoming more organically aligned with His will.

And something beautiful happens: thanksgiving begins to flow more freely as we recognize His faithfulness. Looking back on how He has nurtured our faith strengthens our trust in Him for both the present and the future.

The gold is there! It’s woven into every experience. As we grow in relationship with Christ through faith, our eyes open to His presence, our hearts soften to His leading, and trust becomes the golden foundation upon which we stand.

So, let us go for the gold! “Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge Him” (Hosea 6:3).
