The View from My Place – “Green Olive Tree Faith”

July 5, 2023 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

“But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever” (Psalm 52:8).

David penned these words as a man running for his life from a king who was Hell-bent on David’s destruction. How could he see himself as a healthy and vibrant olive tree? It clearly wasn’t because of his circumstances. No, it wasn’t what was happening to or around David that provided Him this security; it was what was happening in him. It was trust. Specifically, trust in God’s unfailing love.

To David, God’s love was a solid given. He did not measure it by the pleasantness or unpleasantness of his situation. God had graciously endowed him with a clarity and certainty that he was in loving hands no matter what circumstantial “hand” he was dealt. It was a “for ever and ever” trust, no matter the situation or how long it endured.

Like David, our greatest security is in the trusting in God’s unfailing, never-wavering love. Therefore, as He did with David, may God grant us “green olive tree” trust as we move through the various conditions of today.
