The largest rock that is a single block of stone in the world is called Uluru, located in Australia. It is a monolith with a circumference of almost 6 miles and rises 2,831 feet above sea level. Impressive!
But I know of a rock that makes Uluru seem like a grain of sand. It is a rock like none other. Described by one lyricist as the Rock of Ages, this Rock is also referred to as a refuge, as a fortress and as a shield.
It is upon this Rock that Jesus exhorted us to build our lives. Everything else is sinking sand. For time, like relentless ocean waves, eventually dissolves all other things, careers, youth, health and even the best relationships.
We are therefore wisely instructed to “Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD Himself, is the Rock eternal” (Isaiah 26:4). For me, that means whatever happens, He will always be my support, my security and my strength.
