It is an honor to wait for the Lord. No, not just a noble act of obedience or a virtuous display of faith. It is an honor. Per the definition of honor, we “occupy a place of high respect and esteem” with Him.
If the Lord is not giving us what we want, when we want it and how we want it, it’s because He knows something about us that we don’t know. He knows something about our true desires. He knows something about His superior purposes. He knows something about our present spiritual place. He knows something about our future. He is honoring us with His wisdom, His power and His love as they relate to each of us personally!
As we read the inspiring stories in Scripture of God working in and through the lives of His people, we notice how many failed to see the honor in their waiting. (Like Mary and Martha for example.) It is a common human flaw. Nevertheless, God is faithful and despite our tantrums, insistence and resistance, He stays the course of honor, and His words of encouragement remain: “you are precious and honored in My sight” (Isaiah 43:4).
