The View from My Place – “No One Has It Better”

August 16, 2023 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

A few days ago, I wrote… “I am so thankful this morning for the sense that, “the boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places” (Psalm 16:6) and, all things considered, no one has it ‘better’ than me.”

Then someone commented, “That is a beautiful phrase but a bit mysterious to me. How do you understand it, Dan?” And I loved it! Just because something sounds good, doesn’t make it true. So, I always welcome the opportunity to expound on or clarify things I write or say.

I answered, “It is a statement of my faith in God’s perfect governance of my life, not about comparison to anyone else’s life. It’s about my trust in God’s wisdom and love for me and His plans for me regardless of the details of my circumstances. It is a statement about the peace of God and contentment of soul that He provides.”

The statement doesn’t mean no one has a better house than me or a better car than me or better health than me or better looks. Obviously, many people do. And it doesn’t mean a wasp won’t sting me under my eye when I’m outside conducting business for the Lord, like it did a short while ago. Or that I don’t have other serious life challenges like everyone else. I do.

It means no one has a better life than me! And that’s because the quality of my life is not determined by the abundance of my possessions or by my circumstances, but by my connection with my Creator. And He is accessible to all of us, wherever we are. Therefore, my desire and prayer for every believer is to be able to say with full conviction. ‘No one has it better than me!”
