This morning, I abandoned my normal routine and spent my entire personal time with the Lord discussing an upcoming lunch appointment with a cherished friend. I expressed my gratitude to the Lord for him, reminiscing about the qualities and experiences that define our relationship. And I was blessed by the reminder that the Lord can engage with me anywhere, about anything, and He can utilize every aspect of life to deepen my relationship with Him – including a reflection on a single relationship.
As I recounted my relationship with my friend, giving thanks to the Lord became a natural outgrowth of my reflection. When I considered his present health challenges, prayers of intercession naturally arose. As I reflected on the specifics of our years as friends, I began to see him as an instrument of the Lord’s kindness towards me, which renewed my appreciation for God’s love for me. And through all of this, my awareness of the Lord’s presence was rekindled.
I do highly recommend a regular time and plan of engagement with the Lord. I am richly blessed by the consistency, focus, and the perspective it provides me. But today, as a bonus, I was blessed with a fresh realization that, like choosing to take a different route to work or home, we have options. The Lord accompanies us wherever we go and is not merely waiting in the place of our routines until we arrive there.
