There was once a lamp on my table. Perfectly intact. Bulb. Base. Cord. All there. But even when I turned the switch, it stayed in the dark. What was wrong with it? It wasn’t plugged in.
That lamp was my life. I was created for more. For fullness of life. But when I tried to manufacture that life, continually turning the switch, trying harder and searching wider, I still came up empty. All I really needed was connection. Not to electricity, not to the universe, not to some mystical force, but to a Person. To the One who is life itself. His name is Jesus.
Jesus didn’t come to tell me to improve my bulb. He came to offer me an eternal connection with Himself. And when I connected to Him, His truth and His life began to shine through me. He is that light and life. He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). Just as the lamp was either connected or unconnected, so was I. There is no third option that will produce His light.
Nor was there a bill for connection or fee for usage. He paid it all.
I was never meant to generate my own light; I was made to reflect His. All He needed from me was a call… a simple “yes.” That’s all He needs from anyone.
Connection is just a prayer away.
