“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer” (Psalm 19:14).
This familiar prayer knocked gently on the door of my mind today, carrying a fresh breeze with it. It’s fascinating how a spoken word, or even a tucked-away thought, can quietly steer our decisions, color our responses, shape our moods, and influence our relationships.
The words we speak and the meditations we hold flow from the mind, that amazing inner processing and distribution center. It sorts, filters, rehearses, and sends. It determines what settles in the heart and what spills from the lips. That makes it vital to be attentive to what we’re stocking on our mental shelves.
Paul gave us the perfect packing list: whatever is true, lovely, excellent, or praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). Thoughts of the Lord’s miraculous and ongoing work within us, His unchanging affection toward us. The miracle of new life and a new nature He has performed in us. These aren’t just pleasant reflections, but holy nourishment. They feed the meditations of our hearts and clothe our words in a way that not only pleases the Lord but aligns with our new nature in Christ.
So today, the view from my place in Psalm 19 is a quiet, intentional request, to live tuned-in to the beauty unfolding within me and all around me, so that grace and blessing might flow freely through me.
