Recently, I took some time to review some of my journals from the past and I discovered a lot of repetitiveness in my thanksgiving. I didn’t like that. Certainly, my blessings are not confined to such a limited selection. But… nor do I want to write or recite a checklist of everything I could give thanks for; that would be exhausting.
Then I was graced with an “aha:” Thanksgiving is always one of the Lord’s favorite “dishes.” It pleases Him greatly. Like a good cup of coffee in the morning, it doesn’t have to be “new” just fresh. What is important is that we serve Him our thanksgiving with fresh sincerity of the heart. Afterall, the goal is to be thankful, not “creative.” If I am sincerely thankful for 5 things, and I find myself repeating them before the Lord each day, He is delighted.
Therefore, redundancy in our thanksgiving can be a tribute to the Lord’s faithfulness to sustain our awareness and appreciation of His blessings. So, instead of lamenting it, I now include it as another item of thanks.
