Imagine for a moment what would happen if you returned to your old high school and went to class with the rest of the students. Imagine taking a seat, pulling out your notebook and readying yourself for the morning lesson. The teacher calls the names. Yours isn’t on her list. She asks you if you’re certain you’re in the right class, the right grade and because you look so out of place, if you are even in the right school. You answer you’re sure you’re in the right school because you graduated from it 20 years ago!
Her next words are, “Security!!!”
According to the Scriptures, when we place our faith in Christ, we have fully met the requirements of God’s Law (Romans 8:1-4). Not because we earned it, but because Christ earned it for us. Therefore, trying to meet those requirements again by our own good behavior is as pointless as returning to high school. The requirements have been fully met. There is nothing more to be done about it. It is finished. Because of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, God, the Superintendent of the Universe, has conferred upon us a “Law” degree from His Grace University. We are now fully qualified to be called sons and daughters of the Most High and ready to assume our place in the world as His ambassadors of love.
