The View from My Place – “Seeing the Unseen”

November 18, 2020 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

“But we see Jesus…” (Hebrews 2:9).
As believers in Christ, our lives will never be the same again. Because, from a heart of inexplicable grace and kindness, He has chosen to spend the rest of our life here on earth with each of us from inside our mortal bodies. What is He doing in there? He is coaching us to greater faith in Himself by helping us to see the unseen. To see Himself, not with physical eyes but with eyes of faith.

He is not becoming more faithful to us; He is helping us to see His faithfulness. He is not becoming more generous towards us; He is helping us become more aware of His generosity. He is not becoming more glorious; He is blessing us with greater recognition of His glory. He is not becoming more affectionate towards us; He is helping us to see the various manifestations of His affection.

The Lord does not change. Instead, He opens our eyes to who He is and to who we are to Him. As our vision of His magnificence and our belovedness expands, we discover that we are filling our lives with more of Him. Not because we “ought to” or in order to “earn” His blessings, but to discover and enjoy the blessings of His personal disclosures. The Scriptures label these blessings, “The unsearchable riches of Christ” (Ephesians 3:8).
