The Yankees lost to the Red Sox last night and it turned my thoughts to my own baseball experience.
In my last at bat in organized ball, the left fielder sized me up and took a few steps in. When I swung, the players and even the umpires did a double-take. They couldn’t believe a wallop that big came from someone my size. (To be honest, I didn’t believe it either.) But believe it or not, the ball kept going until it landed over the fence for a homerun, as I rounded the bases.
In a similar way, whatever surprising spiritual “wallops” I may display, they come not from my size but from the One who lives inside me. He gives me confidence and strength whether I hit a homerun or strike out, whether the fans cheer or boo. He is the one “from whence cometh my help.”
You can trust Him today for your next “at bat,” however it turns out.
