What do you do when someone you love is doing something you don’t love? Something that goes against your personal convictions and what you believe are God’s directives. Should you say something to them now, or wait for a more appropriate time, or perhaps not at all?
My advice: Love ’em and take ‘em to Jesus.
The answer is not as easy as “what does the Bible say?” Because I may know the Bible backwards and forward but that doesn’t mean my response to others is biblical. Even though I think my position is solidly rooted in Bible truth, (“Look it says it right there!”) my understanding and application of that truth can be seriously flawed. (Just ask Jesus about the Pharisees.) And while Jesus certainly rebuked the disciples when they were wrong, He didn’t rebuke them for everything they did wrong. Love tells the truth, but first love is patient.
So, when I am perplexed, I take ‘em to Jesus. And they don’t even have to know I’m taking them. I take them in prayer, and I take myself right along with them.
Love ’em and take ’em to Jesus. And when you do, leave ’em with Jesus. He’ll call you if and when He needs you. Stand by in the waiting room and remain prayerful. You won’t miss the role He wants you to play going forward.
