The View from My Place – “Taste and See”

November 3, 2021 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

“Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him” (Psalm 34:8 New Living Translation)

For different reasons, all of us need to taste and see that the Lord is good.  Some need to taste His goodness to draw near to Him to receive eternal life.  Some of us need to taste His goodness to move to a place of deeper trust in Him. Some of us need to taste His goodness so we recognize that He is a superior experience to everything else that this life offers.  Some of us need to taste His goodness to help us recover from chronic disappointment.  For still others of us we need to taste His goodness so we can persevere in our present situation.  But all of us, every day, need to taste and see that the Lord is good.

But how?  How do we taste?  The answer follows the invitation:  “Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him.”  We have seen the desperation of people seeking refuge in the United States.  They pay any price.  They take life-threatening risks.  They do so with the belief that their safety, wellbeing, and a better life rest within our borders.  In the same way, to take refuge in the Lord is to believe that our safety and wellbeing and a better life rest in Him.

However, unlike the United States, sanctuary in Him requires no processing, no screening and there are no delays.  Everyone is welcome to take refuge in Him.  In doing so we will see that the Lord is good and the best life rests in Him.
