This morning, I was reminded of a liberating truth: God cherishes my words of thanksgiving, but He doesn’t need them. Sometimes I wax eloquently about what I am thankful for, and other times I simply say, “Lord, I set my heart before You now as a sacrifice of thanksgiving,” and let my mind meditate on His goodness.
I can give thanks with my mouth, and He receives it as a pleasing aroma. Yet when words fail, He sees and receives my intent just as favorably. He doesn’t value my verbal expressions of thanksgiving more than my nonverbal ones.
In this and in all things, the true gift we give to the Lord lies in what’s inside, not the package.
