The View from My Place – “The Lord of ‘What is Next'”

April 10, 2024 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

Biblically speaking, “the number 40 often signifies a divinely appointed new beginning in God’s Plan.” Those words, taken from an amazing booklet compiled for my 40th pastoral anniversary, deeply moved me. As I reflected on them, I felt a sense of peace, realizing that I don’t need to worry about “what may be next” or actively search for it. I don’t need to alter my spiritual focus to pursue it. Instead, I can continue what I’ve been doing every day and patiently wait for God to reveal it. And what I’ve been doing is continually seeking Him! To know Him better. To trust Him in the moment. And to be receptive to His guidance and promptings.

For each of us, there is a “what is next” that aligns with God’s plans for us, plans established in Christ before the world began. Your life today is more than your routine or the sum of your actions. It is a significant part of the glorious production called, “The Glory of Jesus Christ.” We were created for His glory. We are instructed to do everything for His glory. And we are displays of His glory. It is not our job to figure out what is next, but to fix our eyes, our hearts and our hope on Jesus, our guide for the future and forever. He is the Lord of “what is next.”
